Entretien

Everything in the house is made to be used and handed down. A little care keeps it that way. Bring any piece back to us once a year and we will clean it and check it, free of charge, for as long as you own it.

L'or

Our jewellery is solid 18ct gold. It never tarnishes, and it is soft enough to scratch.

  • Put your jewellery on last, after perfume and creams, and take it off first.
  • Take rings off to swim, garden, cook or go to the gym. Chlorine and salt water are hard on gold and stones.
  • Clean gold in warm water with a drop of mild soap and a soft toothbrush. Rinse, then dry with a soft cloth.
  • Keep each piece in its own pouch or box, so stones and chains do not scratch each other.

Emeralds and cabochons

Emeralds are often oiled to bring out their colour. Never put them in an ultrasonic cleaner or a steamer, and keep them away from hot water. A soft dry cloth is all they need. We check every setting at your yearly visit.

Les perles

Pearls grow in the sea and they are the softest thing in your jewellery box.

  • Pearls go on after everything else: perfume, hairspray and make-up.
  • After wearing, wipe them with a soft, slightly damp cloth and let them dry flat.
  • Never soak pearls, and never use jewellery cleaner on them.
  • Store them flat and away from harder stones. Avoid airtight plastic, because pearls need a little air.
  • If you wear a strung piece often, bring it in to be restrung every year or two.

Le cuir

Glazed calf

Our glazed calf has a deep lacquered shine that softens beautifully with use.

  • Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Avoid leather sprays, oils and alcohol.
  • If it gets wet, blot it gently and let it dry naturally, away from radiators and sun.
  • Hand cream, perfume and dark denim can mark pale leather. Let them dry before you pick up your bag.
  • Store bags upright in their dust bag, filled with tissue to keep their shape. Never hang a bag by its handle.

Suede

Le Cabas and the linings of our bags are in suede.

  • Brush suede with a soft suede brush, always in the same direction.
  • Spray it with a suede protector before you first use it.
  • If it gets wet, let it dry slowly, then brush the nap back up.
  • For a stain, bring it to us. Water and soap will leave a mark.

Le parfum

Fragrance is changed by light, heat and air. Kept well, an opened flacon stays true for three to five years.

  • Keep your flacon in its box, at room temperature, out of the sun.
  • The bathroom is the worst place for perfume. Heat and steam change it.
  • Keep the cap on between wears.
  • Apply to the pulse points and let it settle. Rubbing your wrists together crushes the top notes.
  • Our extraits are rich in colour. Test a hidden spot before you scent silk or pale fabric.
  • An extrait may deepen in colour over the years. This is natural and does not change the scent.

Bougie Le Dîner

  • On the first lighting, let the wax melt to the edge of the glass. This takes about two hours.
  • Trim the wick to 5 mm before each lighting, and burn for no more than four hours at a time.
  • Put the flame out with the gold lid. It doubles as a snuffer.

Maison Sabelle is a concept store by Neat Digital. The advice is sound, even if the house is imagined.
